The Western Reserve Chapter was founded in 1891 in Cleveland, Ohio, by a group of women led by Catherine Hitchcock Tilden Avery. In addition to planning and implementing some of the earliest Americanization programs, the DAR was also involved in providing nursing care and emergency relief to victims of wars and floods.
